Fernbrook began in 1987 with eleven families meeting in a school gym on Alder Street. The building has changed. The heart has not: love God, love Maplewood, and keep a seat open for whoever walks in next.

Every month, Fernbrook teams cook at the Maplewood shelter, tutor at Alder Elementary, and visit seniors who eat too many dinners alone. Serve Maplewood Day now brings hundreds of volunteers onto the streets each September. We do not serve the city so people will come to church. We serve because that is what the church is for.
